PRIVATE SHOWERS

PRIVATE SHOWERS

Nothing is more refreshing than a nice cool shower after 90 minutes of intense hot Bikram Yoga. We have private showers so that you can rinse off and get back to the realities of daily life.

BIKRAM YOGA - 26 Postures for a Better Life

Bikram Yoga is a 90-minute moving meditation with a series of 26 postures performed in a set of two with two breathing exercises, one at the beginning of class and one at the end. The room is set to 105 degrees with 40 percent humidity. You may see people emerging from class soaked with sweat, and with muscles that are defined and toned. While this may seem intimidating to some, it’s important to remember key things mentioned above – it’s never too late, you’re never too old. This practice is designed for all shapes, sizes, fitness levels, and ages. There is no pretense, no judgement. Bikram Yoga is for everyone that seeks a better and healthier existence.

first time advice

PRE-CLASS PREPARATION

  • Try not to eat at least two hours before class. Hydrate yourself well before your session.
  • You will need: a yoga mat, a towel large enough to cover your yoga mat, and a bottle of water to take small sips from as needed. We do not allow glass bottles in the studio due to safety issues in the event of an accident.
  • Yoga mats and towels may be rented and bottled water may be purchased at the studio. We also carry high-end yoga mats for purchase.

uPON ARRIVAL

  • The studio opens 30 minutes before classes begins and remains open 30 minutes after class.
  • For your first visit, arrive 15 - 20 minutes early to register and get ready for class. Wear comfortable, breathable clothing.
  • There is no late admission - the door to the studio locks when the class begins.
  • Be sure to let us know of any prior or current injuries.

DURING & AFTER CLASS

  • Come ready to learn and let go. Things may be hard at first, but if you relax and let go you will feel much better. Everyone was a beginner at some point. Our experienced and qualified instructors will give you step by step instructions. Remember to relax.
  • Pro tip: You are guided into poses verbally, so choose a space in the middle or back of the room so you can watch others around you.
  • After class you may take a shower. Our facility has private showers that allow you to rinse off.

Personalized One-on-One and Group Classes

We understand that everyone is individually unique and may prefer different environments in which to learn and grow our practice. We proudly offer private, one-on-one and small group lessons so you can learn and grow at your own pace, or have a one-of-a-kind team building or friends outing experience in the instruction and guidance of a certified Bikram Yoga instructor where the focus is solely on you and /or your group.

For New Yogis

When you enter the studio, you enter into a safe, no judgement zone and to enhance your comfort level, you can choose to begin learning your practice in an environment that is just right for you. In this setting, you can hone your skills, ask questions, move at your own pace, and grow into your own practice. This is a fantastic supplement to group classes or exclusively, as a way to hone your postures prior to joining a group class.

Each session is based on your personal needs, taking any injuries or limitations into account while moving through the sequence. You can stop to ask questions and get instruction on modified postures to suit your individuals needs.

From here, you can continue with as many or as little additional private lessons as you like before delving into to a group setting.

For Experienced Yogis

This is the perfect opportunity for experienced yogis to take their practice to the next level. During these one-on-one sessions you can get direction on postures you want to perfect and learn how to go further into them with proper guided instruction.

If you have been practicing for just a few months or for few years and know the sequence well but feel as though you may have reached your maximum progression, then these lessons are for you. Just one small modification can make a world of difference in your practice and you can see and feel the positive changes.

For Yogis with Injuries

Something as minor as a scraped knee or more serious injuries and physical limitations can set us back. You don’t have to go without practicing during this time. In fact, this is the perfect opportunity to assist the recovery and healing time, and if you do have physical limitations you will learn modified poses to help you maintain your wellbeing. Whether it is hip, wrist, knee, ankle, shoulder, arthritis, or any other ailment or pain you may be experiencing, you’ll learn how to work around these conditions, move past them, and see noticeable improvements.

To experience the incredible benefits that private lessons can have to enhance your practice and wellbeing, call the studio at 941.447.0090, email bikramyogasarasota.com, or speak to an instructor before or after to class to schedule your appointment.

KATHY

Kathy started practicing Bikram yoga in San Diego in 2001. She moved to Dallas in 2007 and attended the Bikram teacher training in Acapulco in 2008.
Kathy has taught in upstate New York and Texas where she first met current Sarasota owners Farky and Timi.
In 2014, Kathy moved to Ohio to teach for Bikram Yoga Cleveland (BYC) and became the studio owner in 2015. In 2020, BYC, like many Bikram studios, became a casualty of COVID.
In 2021, Farky and Timi invited Kathy to teach for them in Sarasota, which she now happily calls home. When she is not teaching or practicing yoga, Kathy works as a catering manager at Temple Beth Sholom.

chris

Chris’ Bikram Yoga experience began with a class that resulted in a 66 consecutive day practice–that was after a “rough” first class he took after a challenging trail run when he was already dehydrated. The practice helped him get through some challenging periods and changed the direction of his life. Chris has been traveling the country practicing, teaching, and meeting people along the way who have improved their life through the practice of Bikram Yoga since 2012.

TIMI - Co-Owner

Timi is a certified Bikram Yoga teacher and graduated from Bikram’s College of India in 2002. She has been teaching in both the United States and Australia for 21 years. When she is not in the yoga studio teaching and practicing Bikram Yoga, Timi’s work specializes in the rehabilitation of patients with Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, and Parkinson’s disease using the Conductive Education method. She has over 25 years of experience working with individuals with neurological and mobility impairment.
